    Alvin Ferguson Obituary
    Alvin L. Ferguson, Cpt./Ret., 85, was born in Rentisville, OK, on November 23, 1922 to Louis and Emma Jones-Ferguson, the eldest of three children blessed to this union. Both parents and three siblings, Berthenia Ferguson-Robinson, Louis "Sonny" Ferguson and Flora Ferguson- Harvey preceded in transition. He attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, MO, and graduated from Salt Lake City East High School in Salt Lake City, UT, and later pursued a career in the United States Army serving in the 555th Triple Nickel smoke jumpers in World War II and later in the 82nd Airborne, Korean War service, and as an artillery advisor in southeast Asia. Al received many commendations throughout his career, retiring from active military service in 1962 with the rank of Captain. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Alvin then began a new career in government service and worked as a supervisor for the United States Post Office Pershing Branch until his second retirement in 1988. In retirement he pursued many hobbies; he was actively involved in the Mid-America Chapter 82nd Airborne Association and served as its chairman for over eight years, was a charter member of the MO-KAN 555th Parachute Infantry Association and served as its president, was a member of the Robert Crosby VFW Post 8220, Belton, MO, and was a member of the Kansas City Pioneers Club and served as its president. Additionally, he held life membership in the National Smoke Jumpers Association, the N.A.A.C.P. and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. He loved to travel to and from the many conventions and visiting the many friends he had met in military service. In 1943 Alvin married Mercedes McPherson and to this union were born Alva L. Molix (James), Homer Ferguson, Ret. MSGT Minnette Martin (Ludie), Cynthia Smith (Elijah), Ret. Major Mercer Ferguson (Suzie), Lawrence Ferguson (Janelle), Milton Ferguson (Renita) and Joanie Ferguson. Two children preceded him in transition, Homer and Alva. In 1971 he married Brenda Morris and reared Raymond Morris (Fayetta), Malcolm Morris, Bruce Morris (Anabel), E. Stefan Morris and adopted son Steve Linton. He leaves to cherish his legacy his wife, the Hon. Brenda Ferguson (former Mayor, Tracy, MO) of the home; sons and daughters; his beloved grandchildren, LaDainty Smith, Angela Molix- Fields Sr. (Cory), Larry Saxton (Sherrie), D-Mon Bills (Virginia "Nina"), Che' Martin, Shena Newson, Minnette Smith, Lisa Molix, Shanelle Patrick (Mark), Ramelle Maullin, Matthew Ferguson, Randee Ferguson, Shelia Ferguson, Evan Ferguson, Sabre' Morris, Monique Morris, Ariana Morris, Dominic Morris, Raymond Morris II, DeMarcus Morris and Aunika Morris; great-grandchildren and many friends. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mid- America Chapter 82nd Airborne Association. Funeral services will be held Saturdday, September 27, 2008 at Rising Star M.B.C., 2701 East 43rd St., Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with funeral services to follow. Interment will be at Ft. Bliss. Rev. Lawrence Ferguson, Officiant.
