According to Isa Cleland's notes, when young John Shearer (the nephew settler and her step son) came to Canada. His stepmother traveled with him. She then returned to Scotland .This is most unlikely if the age of her children at the time that John emigrated is considered. It is more likely that she accompanied her son Thomas on his visit. This may also explain the transportation of replacement dishes for the John Shearer household after the fire in 1880. Agnes's death registration shows her son Robert as being the registrant .This was the first mention of him but may explain the missing Robert from William Shearer jr.'s family. It is likely that Robert was attributed to the wrong parents.
