Facts and Events
Agnes Masie Crilley Hixson was born March 22, 1914, in Smithton, the oldest child and daughter of Albert and Sadie Hayes Crilley. During Christmas, all the Crilley children (Person:Agnes Crilley (1),Person:Ray Crilley (1),Person:Harry Crilley (1),Person:Doris Crilley (1)) would visit several of the local churches (in and near Smithton) during their Christmas parties so that they could collect many treats and snacks from all of them. Each year the fireman gave out very nice gift backs with candy, apples, nuts, and other goodies to all the local children. In adulthood she worked at J.C. Penney as a sales clerk, and was a member of the Eastern Star and Amaranth. She married Richard McClure Hixson and they had one child together. A teenager and young adult of the Great Depression, for the rest of her life every Christmas she made a recipe they used since those days. It was a traditional bread pudding recipe, but cooked in a coffee can. She died at the age of 98 on Thursday, July 26, 2012, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Washington County. Image Gallery
