Agnes Gwendoline Borrill was known as Gwen. She was born in Bondi, NSW, Australia on the 9th July 1922 to Alfred Charles Borrill and Elsie May Henderson. Her father had been married before and had three children from that marriage, the two surviving daughters from that marriage spent time in Australia with their younger siblings prior to moving back to England in the late 1930's.

Gwen's parents took her to visit family in England for a year or more. Arriving in London on 14th April 1923 Alfred and Elsie provided Elsie's mother's newsagency in Brentwood, Essex as their postal address in England. After returning to Australia they settled in Willoughby, New South Wales at 19 Third Avenue, where Gwen and her siblings grew up.

Marcel and Gwen were married in Sydney during 1943. Their eldest son was also born in 1943, during World War II, while Marcel was at sea. They were apart for a few years while Marcel was in in America before the end of the war.

Marcel and Gwen had three sons and they initially lived in Wahroonga, NSW before moving to Bobbin Head Rd, Turramurra when their sons were young.

Gwen worked as Piano teacher throughout her life and one of her former students remembers that “I was only young but I remember she was very patient and a good teacher and at times she would smack a ruler down hard on the side of the piano if I was doing something wrong.”

Gwen passed away at Westmead Hospital, Westmead, NSW, Australia on the 1st February 1997.
