Adolphus mustered in as private in Company A in the  13th Indiana Infantry Regiment June 19, 1861 from Marion County. He was transferred to the Re-Organized 13th and mustered in Dec. 20, 1863 as Sergeant in Company C.  He received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the "Reorganized" 13th Dec. 19, 1864 and mustered in Jan 1, 1865.  Promoted Captain of Company K May 1, 1865.  Mustered out June 1, 1865.
