I believe he was the son of Boniface Zeitler and Seraphina Bischof, who married in Newark in 1854, according to an IGI record.

 In the 1870 census for Newark, Essex Co., New Jersey, 'Bonifacius Seidler' is 50, carpenter from Baden; with Serafina 45 Baden; Ferdinant 20, Baden, 'in Railing business'; August 12 NJ; Lina 9 NJ; and Adolf 6. {p. 204 / 608 roll 882}
 In the 1880 census for Neward, Essex co., New Jersey, 'Bonifac Zeidler' is 61, carpenter born Baden [Germany] (parents same); with wife Seraphina, 56 Baden (parents same); and sons August 22 'hatter' and Adolph 18 'bag maker' -- both born New Jersey (parents Baden). {p.178A}
  There is an IGI record for 'Carry Seitler', b. 21 July 1892 in Newark, Essex Co., New Jersey to Adolph Seitler and Kate Becht. There is also a record for Lina Seitler, b. 18 Jan 1884.

His wife Katherine is 37, born June 1862 in New Jersey, with 5 of 5 children living. The children are Magdaline, 15, born 1884, operator on 'corsets?'; Mary 14, b. 1886; Charles 11, b. 1888; Carroline, 7, born July 1892; Louissa, 5, b. Dec 1894.  Also in the house are [sister-in-law?](Mary?) Shoemacker, widow, age 40, born New Jersey (parents Germany), with 2 of 4 children living.
