Research Notes

  • as quoted from Goodspeed's History of TN (?which one?) - In 1757 Adam Goodlett of Edinburg, a young man who had just finishing his education in the best schools of Europe, came on a visit of pleasure to this country. While in VA he met and fell in love with Miss Rebecca Balderson, and seeking her hand in marriage, gained her consent, under a pledge that he should make his permanent home in this country and not return to Europe. (I do not know where they get Rebecca from) It also names their children. John, James, Ebenezer (middle name is Erskin), Erskin (which is really James Ralph Erskin), Adam G., Robert, Margaret, Francis, Ellen, Nancy and Eliza. It says shortly after the war of 1776 they moved to Bardstown, Nelson Co., Ky with their family. After a few years moved to Nashville, Tn and died in 1822.
  • possibly a Surgeon in the 7th U.S.Infantry Reg.(from KY)in the War of 1812 - needs verification.
