Mrs. [Lois Garrett] Doud's daughter, Miss Adaline Doud, was married January 1, 1836 [see marriage record], to Joseph Chadwick, and settled in Fowler, at what was afterwards known as Chadwick's Corners.
Three children were born to them, two girls and a boy. Mr. chadwick became somewhat of an invalid, the charge of the farm devolved upon her, but she was a woman of energy and ambition, and succeeded in winning her way in spite of obstacles. In place of the piano of modern days, her teaching had been upon the wheel and loom, and many a yard of cloth was manufactured by her fingers.
She was a very hospitable woman, and, although working so hard in her own home, she still had time to minister to the wants of others. In those early days her home was called the preacher's home, and many a tired minister found rest and cordial hospitality there after a long and tiresome ride on their circuit.
Mrs. Chadwick still [1896] lives at the old home with her son and grandson, but was so unfortunate as to break her hip about a year ago, and is confined to an invalid chair. She is 79 years of age.
