Ada Lavinia Moss was born on 19th March 1882 at Aley Green in the parish of Caddington. Caddington parish straddled Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire at the time, with Aley Green falling in the part of the parish in Hertfordshire. Ada was the daughter of a bonnet sewer called Bethia Moss, formerly King, and her husband William Moss, an agricultural labourer. Ada's birth was registered simply as "Lavinia Moss", but she was baptised when two months old as "Ada Lavinia Moss", suggesting her parents changed their mind about her name shortly after she was born.

Some time between Ada's birth in 1882 and the 1891 census the family left Aley Green and moved to the nearby town of Luton. Ada's parents appear in the 1891 census living at 146 Chapel Street. Ada herself spent census night that year staying with her older sister Victoria and her family at 6 Windsor Street.

The 1901 census finds Ada living with her parents and one sister at Farley Green in the parish of Caddington, right on the border with Luton. By this time Ada was working as a straw hat sewer.

In 1905, aged 23, Ada married a brass trimmer called George Davis. The following year Ada's mother died.

Ada and George had a son, Harold, in 1907, but he died when he was only one year old in 1908.

The 1911 census finds Ada and George living at 76 Park Road West in Luton. They had an adopted child called Charles Francis Morris living with them. George's older sister Emily was also living with them on census night. Park Road West was later renamed Strathmore Avenue, presumably to distinguish it from the very similarly named Park Street West nearby. Ada's father died four days after the 1911 census.

Ada and George went on to have another son, William Arthur, in 1913, and a daughter, Irene Dorothy, in 1920. Their son William died in 1933, aged nineteen.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, Ada, George and their daughter Irene were living at 76 Strathmore Avenue.

Ada died in 1960, aged 78. George survived her by about eight years.
