George Davis was born on 14th July 1882 at Luton in Bedfordshire, son of a straw hat sewer called Jane Davis, formerly Frost, and her husband George Davis, a farm labourer. Young George appears in the 1891 census living with his parents and siblings at 32 St Ann's Road in Luton. By 1901 they had moved to 38 Harcourt Street and George was working as a brass foundry trimmer.
In 1905, aged 23, George married Ada Lavinia Moss. They had a son, Harold, in 1907, but he died when he was only one year old in 1908.
The 1911 census finds George and Ada living at 76 Park Road West. They had an adopted child called Charles Francis Morris living with them. George's older sister Emily was also living with them on census night. Park Road West was later renamed Strathmore Avenue, presumably to distinguish it from the very similarly named Park Street West nearby.
George and Ada went on to have another son, William Arthur, in 1913, and a daughter, Irene Dorothy, in 1920. Their son William died in 1933, aged nineteen.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, George, Ada and their daughter Irene were living at 76 Strathmore Avenue.
Ada died in 1960, aged 78. George continued living at 76 Strathmore Avenue after her death. He died in 1968, aged 85.
