    Mrs. Hortense Lazenby, acting city treasurer, is mourning the death of her father, Archilles Varran, who died early Tuesday morning in his home at 4735 Twelfth Street, Detroit. He was 81 years old. Several months ago, Mr. and Mrs. Varran celebrated the 52nd anniversary of their wedding. Mrs. Varran survives with the children.

    Funeral services for Achille (Archie) L. Varran will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cavanagh Mortuary, 100 W. Kirby Ave. under the auspices of Kilwinning Lodge No. 297, F. & A. M., of which he was a member. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery.
    Mr. Varran, who lived at 4735 Twelfth St., died Tuesday. He was born Jan. 3, 1856, in New York City and came to Detroit in 1880. He started to work for Newcomb Endicott Co. when it opened at was with the firm 46 years.
    He was treasurer of Court Detroit, Foresters of America, for 25 years and a life member of Diamond Lodge, I.O.O.F.
    Surviving are his wife, Ida; six daughters, Mrs. W.W. Walker, of Burlingame, Calif.; Mrs. Hortense Lazenby, Ferndale; Mrs. Victor Martin, Dearborn; Irene, Mrs. William Erskine and Mrs. Ralph Carter, of Detroit, and 14 grandchildren.
