Absalom was the son of James Rorie and Suesanna Buxton. He married Sarah Jane Elizabeth Meador in Anson County, North Carolina, in 1817. The next year, Absalom, Sarah, and their first child, James Allen "Ally," moved to Hardin County, Tennessee, where the following children were born (in order of birth): Mary, Judah, Hezekiah, Nancy Jane, Susannah Alice, John G., Sarah Caroline, Absalom, Jr., and Martha Elizabeth. Absalom and his family moved farther west to Roasting Ear Creek, Searcy County, Arkansas in 1845, eventually farming near Big Flat, Searcy County. Here their youngest child, Andrew Buxton, was born. The family says Absalom and his wife are buried in the family plot on the old Rorie farm located between Fiftysix and Big Flat in unmarked graves. The cemetery is located in a pasture and is difficult to find.
