Abram D. Baxter, Homestead Papers, Homestead application # 9227, Final Certificate # 6085, the SW 1/4 Sect 4, Town 116, Range 43, 160 acres, Land Office at Benson, MN. Witness affidavits on 14 January 1884 from: Josiah Darling and Solomon Sear, which state that Abram settled in the town of Maxwell during March 1878 and established actual residence the same month, frame house 12 X 24, 1 story high frame, grainery 14 X 16 one story high frame, stable with straw roof 16 X 32, well of water, 85 acres broke, half acres forest trees, total value $800; cultivated 85 acres and raised crops theron six seasons. Testimony of Claimant: Abram D. Baxter: name is Abram Dyer Baxter, age 33 years, post office address: Maxwell, Lac Qui Parle, Minn; has wife and two children. Homestead application witnesses: Salomon Sear, Josiah Darling, J.H. Maxwell and S.G. Bell. Abram D. Baxter paid $14 on 22 Nov 1878 being the amount of fee and compensation of Register and Receiver for entry of land. Baxter, native of Iowa, was born August 23, 1850, in Muscatine county; when he was an infant the family removed to Jefferson county, and at the age of seven went to Wisconsin; from 1863 to 1869 he was farming in Rice county, Minnesota; also lived in Dakota county several years, but since 1877 his home has been on section 4 of Maxwell.
