He was a miller by occupation and was so employed for some years at the Lantz mill near Leitersburg, Washington county, MD.; he also worked at the mill of John Miller, on the Greencastle, Franklin county, PA. and Williamsport turnpike, Washington county, MD. and at the Bowles mill in the Clearspring District of Washington county, MD.
First marriage, Mary Elizabeth Houser, after her death he wed Julia Bowles. Children of first marriage: Joseph Thomas Leiter (1805 - 1862), who wed Ann Ziegler; Abraham Leiter Jr. (1806 - 1864), who wed Louise Anna Miller; Mary E. Leiter; James M. Leiter; Rachel Leiter (1802 - 1873), who married George Steinmetz, and Catharine Leiter. Children of second marriage: Anna Leiter; Sarah Leiter, and Evans Leiter. Abraham Leiter, b. 9 Feb 1779, Leitersburg District, son of Jacob and Juliana Leiter. A miller by occupation, employed at the Lantz Mill near Leitersburg; the mill of John Miller on Greencastle and Williamsport Turnpike, and at the Bowles Mill in Coldspring District. He died in Coldspring District and is buried there. His first wife was Mary Elizabeth Houser and their children were: Joseph, Abraham, Mary E., James M., Rachel (who married George Steinmetz), and Catharine. Abraham married second Julia Bowles. Their children were: Anna, Sarah, and Evens. Abraham was a member of the Lutheran Church and a Democrat in politics.
