Abraham Chase [#18], s/o John Chase and Lydia Challis, b. Newbury about 1694, d. Plaistown, NH, "shortly before" 28 Nov 1770, m. (1) Newbury 16 Nov 1716 Ruth Morse, m. (2) Abigail, m. (3) Amesbury 26 Nov 1746 Elizabeth (David) Colby. Will dated 9 Dec 1761, proved 28 Nov 1770, names grandchildren Ruth and William Eastman children of Ruth and William Eastman; daughters Ruth Chase and Prudence; sons Abraham and Ezra to be executors.
[Note: the middle marriage, to Abigail, appears to be based entirely on having a daughter Mary in 1734. But problematically no birth record for Mary Chase can be found, and the marriage appears to be an error since first wife Ruth can be shown to be alive in 1743. The alleged wife's last name is not given, nor a date of marriage, so this cannot be based on a marriage record. The daughter Mary is not mentioned in Abraham's will. There is no death record for first wife Ruth or Mary or the fictitious wife Abigail. As stated, the marriage appears be nothing but a presumption based on a birth record that can't be found. A little sleuthing showed the birth record that confused the author was on p. 18 of the old records, near the bottom, and this record appears to say, and was transcribed in the published VRs as, "Mase", not Chase. Indeed, Abraham Mase and Abigail Barnard m. in Newbury 21 Mar 1733/34 and had several children in Newbury over the next decade. According to the Newbury VRs, p. 1:310, the birth of Mary Mase is also transcribed that way in the copy of Newbury records made by Joshua Coffin, making it pretty clear the author misread this record for Mary Mase and created a fictitious marriage and child as a result.]
