Abijah Son to Ebenezer --- Gale.

  2. It is thought that the daughter Abigail presented by Bond in the family of Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Green) Gale is really Abijah, because the baptism date cited is exactly the one given for Abigail and none of the secondary sources have any further information on Abigail. There is a discussion of this, and the interaction of various estimates of sibling births, on the parents' page.

Source:Gale, George. Gale Family Records in England and the United States : To Which Are Added the Tottingham Family of New England, and Some Account of the, p. 54, presents some confusing information. It says that the father Ebenezer Gale deeded all his land to Samuel Gate on 21 May 1726, "and soon after removed to Oxford". It also assigns Abijah a birth "about 1727" on p. 43. This all suggests that Abijah was born in Oxford and the long lapse before his baptism might be due to that.

But on p. 54 Gales says "the only record we have of his age" is age 30 when he enlisted for service in the French and Indian War. Unfortunately, Gale is pretty ambiguous in his presentation. Service in 1758 is described, and "the following spring he was impressed into service, and on the Rolls was called 30 years of age". Which sounds like he was 30 in 1759, which contradicts the birth estimate of 1727, and isn't all that far off from the baptism date. He died "at a good old age", and the births of several children are unknown, so we simply have no way to rectify this apparent confusion.
