Ebenezer Gale and Elizabeth Green both of Watertown Were Married by Mr Samuell Angier Minster in Watertown December the : 27th 1709.

  2.   The children of this couple are not found in many records. They are listed in Source:Bond, Henry. Family Memorials. Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts, Including Waltham and Weston (1855), p. 229, and the dates are repeated by Source:Gale, George. Gale Family Records in England and the United States : To Which Are Added the Tottingham Family of New England, and Some Account of the, p. 43, pretty much verbatim, except that it adds son Abijah, "b. about 1727" (which conflicts with Lydia). Only two births are found in Watertown Records (Grace and Jonas). Presumably the baptisms are found in the First Church's records, which don't seem to be available online, so that hasn't been confirmed. According to George Gale, Ebenezer had left Watertown about 1726, so it is not clear where baptisms after this date were found.

George Gale was told by the town clerk that there were no Gale births in Oxford, except Ebenezer Jr.'s children. But actually David's birth record is found there. It was presumably mistakenly identified as a son of Ebenezer Jr., because both Sr. and Jr. had wives named Elizabeth. But David was born in 1733, and clearly couldn't be Jr.'s son, (Jr. baptized 1724, suggesting he was 9 in 1733, but he married 1742, suggesting maybe he was older than that, possibly 12 or 13 in 1733, based on spacing of sibling births).

Lydia's birth is not found in either Watertown or Oxford, and the basis for the asserted 1727 date (family Bible? age at death?) is not known. The Gale Family Records say she married David Gates. Based on that, Source:Bowen, Clarence Winthrop. History of Woodstock, Connecticut, vol. 5, p. 233, says, in passing, that she d. 1834, aged 102 [birth about 1732], while Source:History of the Town of Hingham, Massachusetts, Vol. 2, p. 50, citing the Hingham Gazette of 1832, says she died in New York State, presumably 1832, aged 102 and 2 days [born 1730]. Lots of discrepancies, so plenty of reason to want to find the basis for the asserted dates.

Further Lydia's birth and the reported birth of Abijah conflict, being both 1727. Abijah, as noted, was not in Bond, but was an addition by George Gale. However Abijah does appear to be found in Weston records, baptized 10 May 1730. This happens to be the date given for Abigail. As there is subsequent history for Abijah, but none given for Abigail in either of the two sources, it seems highly likely that Bond read Abijah, but interpreted it as Abigail, and created a fictitious person. George Gale, following the family further, saw marriage and history for Abijah, so added him to Bond's record, but left the probably-fictitious Abigail on Bond's authority.

As of the date of writing, Abigail will be left off and Abijah included, but otherwise, Bond and Gale's dates are used due to lack of good alternate sources. But they should be regarded with suspicion until their ultimate source is discovered.
