HERE LYES BURIED THE BODY OF ABIGAIL RAWLINS AGED 72 YEARS DEPARTED THIS [LIFE] MARCH Ye 2[rest unreadable] [Note: the memorial page says inscription finishes March ye 2d 1711. NEHGR, "Burial Inscriptions, Milton, Mass.", Vol. 7, p. 89, gives "Here Lyes Buried the Body of Abigail Rawlins aged 72 years Departed this Life March ye 2t 1711". Source:Teele, Albert Kendall. History of Milton, Mass., 1640 to 1887, p. 488, gives "Here lyes buried the body of Abigail Rawlins, aged 72 years, departed this life Mary ye 20th, 1711-12". Commentary: it is impossible to determine which variation is correct from the picture, but perhaps there is a zero (from the 20) behind the blade of grass, and perhaps there is a 2 (from 1711-12) on the very bottom row, so perhaps the History of Milton gives the most accurate transcription?]

- ↑ Several sources, including Source:Wadsworth, Mary Jane Fry. Wadsworth Family in America, p. 177, and Source:Wadsworth, Horace Andrew. Two Hundred and Fifty Years of the Wadworth Family of America, p. 228, say that Samuel's wife Abigail died 1687. No specific date is given, no justification is given and no such death record has been located. However, the will of son Christopher, dated 4 Dec 1687, leaves a bequest to his dear and loving mother, leaving a very small window of about 4 weeks where such a death could have occurred, if it did happen. So it seems questionable.
Multiple sources alternately say that Abigail m. (2) Thomas Rawlins (e.g., Source:Torrey, Clarence Almon. New England Marriages Prior to 1700, under Thomas Rawlins). No record of such a marriage is found either. In 1680, two deeds name Abigail Wadsworth Relict widow of the s'd Sameul Wadsworth (Suffolk Deeds 12:226-7), and Thomas Rawlins will of 1681 (proved 1693) mentions no wife (Suffolk Probate Vol. 13, p. 289). But the gravestone documented by citations on this page suggest this is likely as it appears Thomas had a widow named Abigail. Further, Source:Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States. Milton Town Records, 1662-1729, p. 111, show an assessment in 1694 on "widow rawlins and John Wadsworth", presumably as joint owners of a parcel in Milton. "Abigail rowlin" is first mentioned in an assessment dated 25 Jan 1685/86.
