SCHONOUER

Andreas Schonauer, b. c 1560, of Grosshöchstetten, Bern, Switzerland. He married Elisabeth Krähenbühl.

1. Melchior Schonauer, b. 1590, Grosshöchstetten. He married Barbara Barfuss on 28 Aug 1612 at Grosshöchstetten.

11. Christian Schonauer, b. 28 Dec 1617, GH. He married Anna Strufenegger.

111. Hans Schonauer, b. 23 Apr 1644, GH. He married Elisabeth Aebersold (b. 1647), daughter of Jost & Anna (Murer) Aebersold of Grosshöchstetten. Hans and wife were Anabaptists and were exiled from Switzerland in 1711 and were to be sent to Holland. They left the ship bound for Holland at Mannheim, Germany in 1711. Hans was in jail at the "upper hospital" in Bern 29 Sep 1710. They may have moved to the Jura area of Switzerland.

1113. Jost Schonauer, b. 6 Dec 1672, GH. He married Catharina Krebs in Catharina Krebs in 1692. He was a Mennonite living at Corgemont, Jura on 2 Oct 1727 and at Sombeval and Sonceboz, Jura on 22 Feb 1745. In 1727 he was listed as being from Hochstetten and was 52 years old and his wife age 60. It mentions that they have three sons, with the littlest son, age 20 living with them.

11133. Jost (Joseph) Schonauer, b. c 1707. He died at Cumru twp., Berks Co., in 1777. The executor of his will was Mathias Mosiman. His wife was probably dead by 1777 as Jost does not mention her in his will and his oldest daughter is taking care of the family. He left Courtelary, Jura in 1754 with a group of Mennonites. He arrived in Pennsylvania on the ship Phoenix on 1 October 1754. He was age 20 living with his parents at Sombeval in the Jura in 1727. He was a Mennonite.

111331. Elizabeth Schonauer, b. c 1755. She was the oldest daughter. She lived at home in 1777 and was house keeping and taking care of the family.

111332. John Schonauer. b. c 1757. He was a minor in 1777 and an adult by 1779.

111333. Anna Schonauer, b. c 1759. She was under age 21 in 1779.

111334. Magdalena Schonauer, b. c 1761. She was under 21 in 1779.

1118. Hans Schonauer, b. 4 May 1688, GH. He died by 1749 at Lancaster County. He was married to Ursula. She died in 1773 in Cocalico Twp. , Lancaster County. Her executors were Jacob Erb and Abraham Brubaker. He was a Mennonite.

11181. Christian Schonauer, b. c 1717. He was mentioned as the oldest son in the orphan court records of Lancaster Co., in 1749. He did not want his father‘s land in 1749. He was taxed at Conestoga twp., in 1751.

11182. Barbara Schonauer, b. c 1720. She was married to John Hostetter of Warwick twp. She died in the 1760's.

11183. Abraham Schonauer, b. c 1722. He bought his father's land in 1749. He was taxed at Cocalico twp., in 1751, 1756 and 1758 on 180 acres. 100 acres in 1759.

11184. Jacob Schonauer. b. c 1724. He died at Cocalico twp in about 1764. He wrote his will 13 Dec 1763 and it was proved 14 Jan 1764. He was married to Magdalena. His executors were Jacob Erb and Jacob Sensenig. He mentions his children, but only Barbara by name. He was taxed at Cocalico twp. for the first time in 1758. He was taxed there in 1759 as a weaver with 100 acres next to Abraham Schonaur. Jacob's land was sold on 16 Jan 1765 to Jacob Neagley of Cocalico twp., to satisfy debts left from his estate. His widow Magdalena married secondly by 1774 to Joseph Gundy of Bethel twp.
