Heads of Households in 1790

Anson County, North Carolina was formed from Bladen County in 1750. Located on the southern border of North Carolina its line with South Carolina was a source of much dispute. This boundary dispute caused a redrawing of the line. Before the boundary was redrawn Anson County included parts of Craven County, South Carolina which was later split into what is now Marlboro, Chesterfield, Lancaster, York, Chester, Cherokee, Union, Laurens, Spartanburg, Greenville and Newberry. Disputes continued until the line was redrawn again in 1772. In later years parts of Anson County were taken to form Union, Richmond, and add to Mecklenberg Counties in North Carolina.
