From James Johnson and Margaret Unknown (3): Possible duplicate? [15 April 2015]

Hi, Daniel,

The Margaret in this record seems to be the same Margaret in Family:James Johnson and Margaret Unknown (2). The husbands look different though. Is there some way to resolve this?

Thanks, Gayel --GayelKnott 05:52, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Captain James Johnson of Boston had no daughter named Ann, though he did have 2 daughters named 'Hannah' but both were born in the 1650s and 60s and died young. I don't know who that other James Johnson is. This James Johnson has unknown parentage, anyway. EDIT: I misread your comment. Yes, someone seems to believe that the Margaret Johnson who died in 1643 was that other man's wife. But I don't have any info on this other man to really be able to clean him up. Very quickly looking around; James Johnson witnessed the will of John Oliver on the date that is given as the 'death' on this other man (14 May 1663). But that Ann doesn't seem to place in his family; she would be a bit old to be a daughter of his if she is marrying in 1661, though it isnt impossible for him to have had one with his first wife. Probably what should happen is that this family should be merged, and the Ann removed as his daughter and left unplaced. I will say something to Jaques, who cleaned up the Makepeace family (that this Ann Johnson married into), if he has any idea. Daniel Maxwell 06:11, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. My instinct is that they are probably the same, but some documentation would help. If Jaques can't help, I could try American Ancestors -- I think they might have Boston records. --GayelKnott 06:18, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
