Arthur grew up just east of the Illinois-Indiana state line, in Valparaiso. Olive lived in St. Louis in 1880. They married in 1891 and had daughters in Elgin, Illinois. Elgin is northwest of the city of Chicago, between what is now O’Hare airport and Rockford. Arthur and Olive moved to south Chicago around 1901.
Arthur and Olive were the first of what has currently reached 7 generations of Chicagoans, spanning the entire 20th century and now into the 21st.

Arthur and Olive Lockwood Parke lived at 735 E 88th Place in Chicago. Both Arthur and Olive lived there when they died. Eventually, four generations would live in the house. First, Arthur and Olive Lockwood Parke built the house. Daughter Lillie and her husband Charles Butt would move in and raise their family there. Finally during some difficult times the daughters of granddaughter Olive Butt Hyde also spent some time there as teenagers.
Olive Lockwood Parke had very long hair. It went down to her ankles. Her son-in-law Charles Butt and grandsons Wally, Chuck, and Joseph Butt would play cards in the kitchen and her bedroom was right off the kitchen. She would comb her hair to delay while they played because she didn’t want to go to bed before they did, but this just made them want to keep playing all the more.
Art died in 1932 at the age of 64. Tragically, his youngest daughter Francelia followed him a little over two years later at the age of just 39. She was survived by her husband and seventeen year old son. Olive lived on through the depression and World War II and died in 1945 at the age of 80. Her older daughter Lillie would also die relatively young, following her mother just two years later at the age of fifty-six.
