In an undated document, "Edw[ard] Norice" certified "that William Whyte and Marye Ware (both lately arrived in this land) have with the consent of parents on both sides, agreed together, to enter the state of marriage, as soon as the worshipful governor here should be pleased to give admittance which they rather chose than any other way else had it been done before their setting forth which upon request, I am bold to testify on their behalf" [Winthrop Papers 4:168]. Anderson notes that, assuming that the document was executed shortly after Norris arrived in New England (by 21 Jul 1639), and while Winthrop was governor (term concluding 13 May 1640), the document was probably executed in late 1639 or early 1640.
