Walter and Agnes were married by Rev. Allgeier. Walter was 25 years old and was a boilermaker. Agnes was 24 years old. It was the first marriage for both of them. In 1946, Agnes was a widow and was living at 316 West Oakdale Drive in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was a seamstress at Fort Wayne Tailoring Corporation. Walter's obituary reads, "W. J. MEIBERS DIES THURSDAY. Was Former Deputy Sheriff Here. Walter J. Meibers, 43, who served as a deputy Allen county sheriff for four years under former Sheriff Fred Lunz, died unexpectedly at 5:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at his home at 316 West Gumpper avenue. He had been in failing health the last three years. Born in Decatur, Mr. Meibers had resided in Fort Wayne the last 25 years. He was last employed by the General Electric works. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, the Holy Name society, Fort Wayne council No. 451, Knights of Columbus, Elks lodge No. 155, American Legion post No. 47, and the 40 and 8. A World war veteran, he enlisted March 16, 1918, and served overseas with the American expenditionary forces from May, 1918, to July, 1991. He was discharged at Ft. Sherman, O., July 30, 1919. Surviving included the widow, Agnes; the mother, Mrs. Louise Meibers of Decatur; and a brother, Eugene Meibers of Rome City. The body was removed to Mungovan & Sons' mortuary, where it may be viewed after 7 o'clock tonight. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the mortuary, and 9 o'clock at St. Patrick's church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. Lawrence Monahan officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. St. Patrick's Holy Name society and the Knight of Columbus will hold joint recitation of the rosary Sunday night at 8 o'clock at Mungovan's mortuary. Elks lodge No. 155 will conduct rites at 7:30 o'clock Sunday night at the Mungovan & Sons mortuary." [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Friday 13 June 1941, pg. 1] References
