The 1900 census of the Thomas O'Conner household shows his daughter Margaret O Connor as Married four years with one child living. There is a grand-daughter in the household Gertrude O Connor born Jan 1895. The census taker did not denote surnames for Margaret and Gertrude, but left them as presumed O'Connor by using an underline for all members of the household.S1 Our presumption is that Margaret is the mother of Gertrude. In 1910 Margaret and Gertrude are again living in the Thomas O'Conner household. Now Margaret is shown as single, rather than widowed or divorced. Gertrude is now listed as Gertie Donovan providing a surname for this family.S2 A search of the Illinois marriage records database for a male Donovan was reviewed. There is one candidate marriage for this family: DONOVAN, WILLIAM OCONNOR, ELLEN 1894-01-31 00E/0175 00016563 ROCK ISLAND S3 The actual marriage record will have to be examined to see if there is any information that better identifies the parties to this marriage. A search for the household of William and Ellen Donovan in the 1900 census was unsuccessful. This lends support to the theory that Margaret may be the Ellen listed in this marriage. Image Gallery
