    Thorney Know: Elizabeth Rowell, head, widow, 43, charwoman; Joseph, son, 7, scholar; Thomas, son, 5, scholar; John Lowery, lodger, 19, lead miner; James Chatt, lodger, 23, lead miner. All born in Allendale.

    The James Chatt "lodger" with the widowed Elizabeth Rowell in 1861 census is quite likely Elizabeth's brother. The age is correct. The John Lowery "lodger" may be Elizabeth's son by a first marriage. (IGI records show him as son of Thomas Lowery and Elizabeth Chatt.)
