Per Thomas Black's Importation Oath of 1740, he arrived in Philadelphia from Ireland. Thomas is thought to have arrived with his Uncle's Samuel, John, and Anthony Black after his father, James died in Ireland. Probably from Chester County, Pennsylvania, Thomas made his way to Beverley Manor as outlined within. Having sold his 569 acres, Thomas moved on to Rockbridge County, Virginia. On 14 Jun 1796, an Inventory and Appraisement of Thomas Black's personal property is recorded in Rockbridge Will Book Volume 1, page 512. He died intestate. On 29 Nov 1800, Thomas' daughter Agnes sells her 1/5th share of 300 acres to David Kerr. The deed appearing in Rockbridge County Deed Book D, pages 316-317. Later, on 8 Sep 1814, Alexander Black, his wife Susannah, his brother James Black, David Kerr and his wife Margaret(Peggy) Black (Alexander's sister) sell 142.5 acres to Peter Lowery. This Deed appears in Rockbridge County Deed Book J, pages 338-340. Alexander Black and his family move on to Warren County, Ohio. Alexander Black dies before 23 Aug. 1821, as this is the date Hugh Tate is appointed to administer Alexander's estate, in that he died intestate. An interesting receipt is part of this record in that Mr. Tate sends Alexander's son, Thomas to pick up 2 Gallons of whiskey to be charged to the Estate. This Probate Record of Warren County, Ohio can be found in Box 22, No. 18, of Docket O, page 204.
