- ↑ The Newbury VRs, Vol. 1, p. 226, show a birth for James, s. Soloman and Mary, Oct. 2, 1705. Holmans in America apparently ignores this, never mentioning a son James. Such a birth is impossible given John's birth 24 Oct 1705. Both are found in what appear to be the original records (or at least an early copy if not the original here James p. 63, John p. 64; they also show up in a newer copy here James p. 72, John p. 73). Several cases are possible: John's birth was recorded twice but once with the wrong name and wrong date, the wrong parents were named in James birth, they were twins and the wrong date was given for one of them, one was recorded in the wrong year, possibly other cases. There is no further sign of any James Holman, so little to go on, and if he existed, he undoubtedly died young.
