- ↑ John Ward is often listed as a son of Major Samuel Ward, but John's age at death implies a birth in 1653, which is too early for Samuel, who was baptized in 1638 (unless the father was approaching the age 10 when baptized). It also would require an earlier wife for Samuel Ward, for which no record is found. Finally, the will of Samuel appears to mention son John Tuttell the husband of his daughter Martha, but no mention of son John, and there is no mention of John or any heirs of his in any of the various deeds selling Samuel's land.
