.....born 6 February 1765 in Westfield, Mass; died 14 April 1830 in Fort Ann, N.Y.; married 15 May 1788 in Fort Ann, Hannah Dewey, daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Martindale) Dewey, born 2 November 1767 in Westfield; died 15 July 1853 in Fort Ann. Roger Ashley, not long before his marriage, removed from his native place, Westfield, Mass., to what was then the town of Westfield in Washington County, N.Y. The village is situated on the site of old Fort Ann and since 1808 has been known by that name. Roger Ashley lived on a farm in the village. He also carried on the manufacture of whip stocks and axe helves. His homestead farm came into the possession of his son, and is still in the family.
