  1. Estimated marriage date of bef 1695 is based on birth of son Joshua 3 Dec 1695 (see Source:Mayflower Descendant, p. 9:8).
  2.   It seems far from clear what the maiden name of Richard Higgins wife was. Source:Cutter, William Richard. New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, p. 3:1172, says Richard Higgins m. 1694 Sarah Freeman. No such pairing is mentioned in Source:Freeman, Frederick. Freeman Genealogy in Three Parts. Source:Higgins, Katharine Elizabeth Chapin. Richard Higgins, a Resident and Pioneer Settler at Plymouth and Eastham, Massachusetts and at Piscataway, New, p. 78, says Richard Higgins m. (1) "(date not found) Sarah Hamben (?)". Other sources also seem to include a question mark (e.g., Source:Torrey, Clarence Almon. New England Marriages Prior to 1700 or choose not to given any maiden name for Sarah (e.g., Source:New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, "Richard Higgins and Some of His Descendants", p. 47:23). Source:Andrews, H Franklin. History of the Hamlin Family, with Genealogies of Early Settlers of the Name in America, 1639-1894, p. 80, cites Otis in saying that Sarah Hamblen "was married and left three children surviving her". No husband is proposed. The will of her brother John, dated 10 Apr 1734, bequeaths to "the children of my sister Sarah", suggesting she was deceased by that date. These facts do not fit the widow of Richard Higgins well, who had many children and was mentioned in 2nd husband John Cole's will, dated 30 Jul 1743.
