Randall Eugene Lipscomb, B-5-17-1875, son of Randall M. and Polly (Myers) Lipscomb in Woodland Township. He married Floy Cotton B-7-17-1897, daughter of |Boston Frederick and Rosa (George) Cotton of near Warnerville, Woodland Twp. Daughter Lorna Ione Lipscomb was born at their home one mile east of the Tamarac School 8-17-1900. Randall E. got a job at Lake Odessa at the Variety Factory making household items and furniture, and the family moved to Lake Odessa. The factory burned and in 1904, they moved to Grand Rapids where he was employed by the Pere Marquette Railroad as a gang foreman repairing freight cars. The family lived in the Black Hills-Coit Park area on Dorchester Ave. and Norwich Ave. Son Otto was born 6-27-1906 but lived only six months, D-12-24-1906. Dacie Aileen was B-11-23-1908 and died as a young woman 5-7-1935. Donna Ruth B-2-16-1911. Ford Lipscomb B-1-12-1914. In 1914 the family moved back to woodland Township and the farm near the Tamarac School where he also rented neighbors' farms to work. Daughter Lorna went to eighth grade at the Tamarac School then to High School at Lake Odessa where she graduated in 1920. Right after she graduated, the family moved back to Grand Rapids and Randall E. took his old job back at the railroad. He bought a house on Dorchester Ave. across the road from their old home and the lot next door. He had a new house built on the vacant lot and the family moved into it in 1921. Daughter Lorna wrote the teachers' exam and taught two years at the Cheney school and 1 year at North Jordan. Two summers were spent going to school at Ypsilanti Teachers College. She taught two years at Woodland School, moving into the new school after Thanksgiving 1923. There were 2 grades per room. After her marriage to Orno Knowles 10-8-1925, she only did substitute teaching. Daughter Donna Ruth Lipscomb married Frank Dunham and they lived in Grand Rapids and had children Diane and Michael. Frank died in March 1984 and Donna still lives in Grand Rapids. Donna's daughter Diane, married Keith Schmuck, a Methodist minister, lives in Riverside, Penn. has three boys and an adopted Korean daughter. Donna's son Michael and his wife Jane (Mokma) have two daughters. Randall Floy's son Ford married Pauline Skutt. They were divorced. His second wife, Rita Malone died. He has two daughters Joyce who married Larry Angel and lives in Wheatridge, Colorado near Denver. Sharon lives near Hastings on Irving Road, and son Neal Lipscomb who lives near Grand Rapids. Ford lives alone with his dog in Grand Rapids.
After Floy's death 1935, Randall E. sold the house and married Alice Brunner and moved to Cannonsberg where they had a gasrden and chickens. Then they moved to Bostwich where he died, 12-6-1956. Buried Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa, Michigan.
