Note of Caution
The three children of Rawleigh Chinn and Margaret (Ball) Downman were born out of wedlock. While he was fathering children with Margaret, Rawleigh was still married to Easter Ball, though this couple was estranged. Upon the death of Margaret's husband Rawleigh Downman I in Lancaster County in 1719, Margaret and Rawleigh Chinn embarked on an "alternative lifestyle." She moved to his property in Richmond County, where the court records are replete of their bastard children, failing to attend church, fornication and otherwise living in sin.
