The villages of WALDGREHWEILER and RANSWEILER were only about a mile apart. Apparently the only churches in either town, were German Reformed churches (as was the case in most of the villages in the area). In areas ruled by the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Reformed and Lutheran were merged into one Protestant Evangelical Church by the Kaiser of Prussia in 1817, despite the Kaiser being of the German Reformed Church himself. This merger caused much discontent among both denominations. This was one of the reasons for much migration from the Palatinate. The Catholic Kingdom of Bavaria also ruled a part of the Palatinate, beginning in the same year, and that king's rule also inflamed the German Reformed, causing additional migration. --White Creek 16:20, 4 November 2013 (UTC) References
