Dates prior to emigration to Canada are assumed to be given according to the Julian ("old world") calendar, which was 12 days behind the Gregorian (modern) calendar in the 1800's.

The Jacob and Catherine Harder referenced in the comments were in Chortitza Colony (Neuendorf #1) in 1802, with son Peter aged 15. But the Peter Harder born 7 Jan 1786 did not immigrate to Chortitza Colony until 1818 (B. H. Unruh, page 217).
