- Jemima and Nelson Ashurst bought 40 acres of land. Sangamon Co.,Illinois on May 16, 1837. In 1839 this land became a part of Menard Co., IL. and in 1841, became part of Mason Co. As Nelson prospered in his other ventures, he and Jemima bought
more land, she helped him manage their property taking care of her family and home.
When Nelson Ashurst died in continued to raise the children, the home and handle the business Because Jemima had helped with his businesses while he was living, she was able to continue managing the businesses well after he had died.
Jemima Ashurst died of typhoid fever on May 8,1860 and was buried in Ashurst Cemetery near Bath, Illinois.
