In the name of God, Amen - I, Nathan Hawkins, of the County of Butler in the state of Ohio - being very sick and weak in body but in perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, and calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die - do make and ordain this my last will and testament - that is to say principally and first of all - I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that giveth it - and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian manner, at the discretion of my executors. Touching my worldly estate, where with it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: 1st - I give to my son, John Hawkins, 100 acres of land - it being the plantation whereon he formerly lived in South Carolina. 2nd - I give to my daughter, Rebecca Compton, $150. 3rd - I give my sorrel mare to my son, Nathan Hawkins. 4th - I give my brown mare to my daughter, Ann Hawkins. 5th - I give my brown horse called ‘Larry’ to my son, James Hawkins 6th - I give my other brown horse named ‘Dick’ to my daughter, Mary Hawkins. 7th - I request my son Nathan Hawkins to give my son, Henry Hawkins, a horse worth 40 dollars - in the space of two years. 8th - I give all the rest of my estate to be equally divided among all my children except John Hawkins & Rebecca Compton - share and share alike - and to receive equally as collected. 9th - I constitute make and ordain my sons, Amos Hawkins and Nathan Hawkins, and my brother Benjamin Hawkins The Sole Executors of This My Last Will and Testament - and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments, Wills, legacies, bequests executed by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

And further if any of my legatees shall be dissatisfied - that the executors choose a few friends to settle it equally between them.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-first day of the twelfth month in the year of our Lord 1805.

Note - records in Preble County, Ohio (record book N, p 263) indicate that son Amos Hawkins, named co-executor, did settle his father’s estate (above) about 1816 - 17. Son, Nathan, named a co-executor married in Ohio (11/26/1807) Rebecca Roberts and they moved to Wayne County, Indiana and lived at Noland’s Fork one mile Southwest of Dover, they fled Dover temporarily, because of the Indians, came to Richmond where he built the log cabin now in the museum yard - in the spring they returned to Dover (now Webster) and afterwards moved to Bethlehem, now known as Carmel, Hamilton County, Indiana. The other co-executor Benjamin Hawkins (brother of Nathan) died 1/18/1815 in Butler County, Ohio.
