  1.   Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Pierce Genealogy, No. IV, p. 91, says Capt. Mial Pierce "b. Mar. 24, 1722; m. Elizabeth, b. ---; d. ---; m. 2nd, Nov. 6, 1740, Patience Martin." Now, the marriage to Patience is recorded and no other Mial appears to be a candidate for that marriage, all being married at the time or even younger, or else that marriage would be unlikely, since he was only 18 at the time. That he married prior to Patience is unbelievable, and the fact that Pierce cannot identify Elizabeth in any way, strongly suggests that he misinterpreted something to think Elizabeth was Mial's wife. Patience died in 1770 and Mial's probate names a wife Martha who he had married by 1777, so there are really very few windows where a wife named Elizabeth could even be squeezed in, and certainly the marriage did not occur in 1749.
