Merlin died due to diabetes. His obituary reads, "Merlin C. Ternet, 86, of Center Point, Ala., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004. He was a Fort Wayne native and a World War II veteran, awarded three Bronze stars while serving in the Philippines, Luzon, New Guinea. He was the devoted husband of Audrey Ternet for 61 years. Also surviving are son...; brother, Clifford Ternet of Fort Wayne; granddaughter...; and a number of nieces and nephews. Service is 2 p.m. Monday at Klaehn, Fahlt & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, with visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial park. Memorials to the Diabetes Foundation.
