Merlin and Rita had eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. Rita's obituary reads, "RITA M. GERARDOT, 71, died at 8:27 p.m. Sunday at home in rural Fort Wayne. She was a lifelong resident of Allen County. She was a homemaker and a longtime volunteer at St. Mary's Soup Kitchen. Surviving are her husband, Merlin; seven daughters...; four sons...; six sisters, Helen Jacquay and Ruth Ann Coonrod, both of Monroeville, Sister Evelyn Mourey, O.L.V.M. of Encino. Calif., Blanche Schaefer and Maxine Rorick, both of Fort Wayne, and Pauline Klinker of Payne, Ohio; four brothers, Edwin Mourey of New Haven, Joseph Mourey of Fort Wayne, James Mourey of Las Vegas and Richard Mourey of LaGrange; and 27 grandchildren. Prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 U.S. 30 East, New Haven, and services at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven. Calling 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. Burial in the church cemetery. Memorials to the St. Mary's Soup Kitchen, the Allen County Cancer Society, or Masses to the church." [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Tuesday 26 May 1922, pg. 3C] Merlin's obituary reads, "MERLIN J. GERARDOT, 86, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Kingston Care Center, Fort Wayne. Born Jan. 20, 1919, in Maples, Ind., he was the son of Maurice and Ellen (Ryan) Gerardot. He was a real estate broker, farmer and business owner during most of his life. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven and the Southside Optimists. he is survived by eleven children...; 30 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rita (nee, Mourey), in 1992; and several brothers and sisters. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven, with calling one hour before service time at the church. Calling also from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana Hwy. 930 E., New Haven, with a rosay service at 8 p.m. Burial is in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Bishop Luers High School, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Sister Evelyn Mourey Center."
