In 1850 Joseph C and Martha are living in Washington Township with their daughter Nancy and Joseph's father, Isaac Griffith, age 70. Joseph and Martha were both born in Ohio while their daughter was born in Indiana. Isaac was born in Pennsylvania. They are farmers.

In 1870 Joseph is a day laborer and Martha keeps house. They have seven more children, including 2-year-old Elizabeth, who were born in Indiana.

In 1980 three of the younger children are living with their brother George, along with sister Nancy and her four children. Joseph died in 1880, and Martha is presumed dead.
