Many sources (e.g., Source:Bond, Henry. Family Memorials. Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts, Including Waltham and Weston (1855), p. 229; and Source:Savage, James. Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, 2:221) show the daughter of John Gale marrying Jonathan Pratt. This is probably based on the assumption that Abraham Gale's first daughter Sarah died, based on the alleged birth of a second daughter Sarah in 1694. The alleged second daughter Sarah would be too young to marry in 1700, leaving John's daughter as the only eligible Sarah.

This scenario runs into a problem, though, because the will of Abraham Gale names daughter Sarah Pratt (see Person:Abraham Gale (1)), strongly suggesting it was the daughter of Abraham that married Jonathan Pratt. Further investigation indicates that the death record in 1694 was probably a misread of Jonah since it is for a son, not a daughter. Thus, there is no longer any evidence that the first Sarah died young. She was born in 1675 and is old enough to marry in 1700.
