Jonathan Plowman Jr. was a successful merchant in the City of Baltimore. In the 1750s & 1760s he and his partner Dr. John Stevenson were the number one importer of Indentured Servants. Jonathan Plowman Jr. also practiced law and was appointed a Justice of the Peace. He bought and sold land and had some of that land sold to expand the city of Baltimore. He would become a City Council Member in the late 1760s early 1770s. He had his ship the Pokemoke taken way by the British and a letter to help him recover his ship was written on his behalf by George Washington. This was before the Revolution. During the Revolution he served as part of the Revolutionary City Council and part of a spy ring to report British movements. His sons Richard and James also fought for America's Freedom. Richard Plowman was part of the Maryland Militia.
