Source:NEHGR, p. 109:163, gives a brief summary of this family's troubles with Indians. It is described in many other sources as well, to wit, on 15 Aug 1696, Jonathan was captured by Indians, with four of his children. Jonathan and son Thomas were taken to Maine where they escaped. The three children, Mary, Jonathan and Joseph were taken to Canada. Mary was redeemed while the brothers remained in Canada, undiscovered by the family until many decades later.
On 22 Feb 1697/98, Jonathan Haynes and a neighbor were killed by Indians, and son Thomas captured a second time. He was redeemed a year later.
