  1.   Source:Cutter, William Richard. Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, p. 3:1150, says John's wife is Beulah Rice. No such marriage record is found, but the birth records of his children (Eunice 1759, John 1761, Hannah 1763, Ebenezer 1766, Oliver 1768, Ann 1771) confirm the given name, at least. Surveying Ward, we find: [P. 29] Beulah, d/o James and Sarah, b. Worcester 23 Nov 1716, is still unmarried in 1733. [P. 45] Beulah, d/o Jonathan and Lydia, b. 11 Dec 1716, m. 22 Oct 1733 Hopestill Bent. [P. 52] Beulah, d/o Aaron and Hannah, b. Rutland 6 Feb 1726-7, "d. prob. before her father". [P. 53] Beulah, d/o William and Hannah, b. 18 Apr 1735, was unmarried in father's will in 1762. None of these seem like good candidates (the first two seem too old to have children in 1771, the last was not married when children were being born, and the names of the children don't seem to favor any one), nor is there a good match to Beulah's death record in Wayland that says she is over 70 in 1812, so born before 1742, probably in the neighborhood of 1740. So Cutter's assertion that the mother's maiden name was Rice seems questionable?
