    "Gardiner. Page 8l, 1st col. Discussions of the alleged English origin of George Gardiner will be found TAG, supra, 14:243-246, and 21:191-200. His common-law wife, Herodias Long, married (1) at St. Faith's (crypt of St. Paul's), John Hicks, marriage licence 14 March 1636/7 [London Marriage Licences, p. 153, British Rec. Soc.). Hicks obtained a divorce in New Netherland 1 June 1655 [O'Callaghan, Hist. MSS. Office of Sec. of State, Albany, p. 149). By Hicks she had Hannah, b. ca. 1638-9, and Thomas, b. ca. 1642. She was divorced from Hicks in Rhode Island 2 Dec. 1643 [information of Dr. Herbert F. Seversmith). For an account of the career of Herodias, see paper by G.
