  1. Davis, Edwin Pountney. Davis of Acton Turville, Gloucestershire, ca.1500-1678: the ancestry of James, Thomas and John Davis, who settled in Newbury, Massachusetts, ca.1638. (São Paulo, Brazil: E.P. Davis, 1984)
    p. 6, 33.

'John Davis, of Acton Turville, yeoman, was probably born c 1560. ...
He married twice. His first wife, Agnes, was buried at Acton Turville on January 23, 1622/3.'

The author goes on to say that he thinks this wasn't Agnes Chandler, who married a John Davis at Frocester (about 16 miles from Acton Turville) in 1577, as 'it does seem a little early for the marriage of John of Acton Turville'. Likewise, although this author doesn't mention it, she wasn't likely Agnes Samon, who married a John Davys at Eisey (about 26 miles from Acton Turville) in 1575.

  2.   The birth order of the children is not certain. They seem to be listed in reverse order of age in their father's will (Samuel, Thomas, John, Ephraim [name not transcribed in the will abstract, presumably illegible], and James. They are listed in their uncle Thomas's will as Thomas, James, Ephraim, John, and Samuel, which appears to be their birth order with the exception of Thomas, who might have been listed first because he was the namesake of the testator.
