Know all men & others presents that we John Davidson & Hugh Panton are hold and firmly bound to James Monroe governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia or his successor in the Sum of $150 to which payment will & truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs Enors? & Jointly & …orally firmly by these presents Witnesses our hands & seals this 6th Day of January 1801.
The Condition of the above obligations is such that whereas whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be soleminized between the above bound John Davidson & Sally McCrea Daughter of Joseph McCrea Dead of Rockbridge County. If therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the same then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force.
