John and Elizabeth were married by the Rev. Jonathan Rahauser, possibly in the Old Elias Church in Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Maryland. Their marriage is recorded in Washington County Marriages, 1777-, page 24. Rev. Rauhauser lived in Hagerstown and preached in all the Reformed churches in Washington County and some in Frederick County. He was listed as the minister for the German Reformed Church in Emmitsburg from 1804-1808. He died in 1817 when he contracted pneumonia, after waters from Conococheague Creek, Washington County, swept through his carriage.
