  1. There was a couple called John Brown and Mary Hogg who married at Norham (then a detached part of County Durham, since transferred to Northumberland) on 28th December 1806. Norham is only six miles south of Allanton in the parish of Edrom where this couple had their children. However, that marriage is considered unlikely to be the same couple. It occurs after the births of at least two children to the John Brown and Mary Hogg from Allanton, and the marriage licence for the Norham marriage describes that couple as being John Brown of Berwick upon Tweed, mariner and Mary Hogg of Twizle Mill, Norham, spinster.
